Rebecca Patterson

Rebecca Patterson grew up in Bolton and initially studied fashion at the Polytechnic of East London, followed by the Royal College of Art. Never entirely comfortable in the world of fashion she sent manuscripts and illustrations to publishers since her teens and retrained in children’s book illustration at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge when her children were at school. She has now written and illustrated children’s books for over a decade, winning the Roald Dahl Funny prize in 2012 for My Big Shouting Day. Her work draws on her own and her children’s childhoods and she has also worked part time as teaching assistant in a local primary school where she honed her “Scary Witch” and “Deranged Robot” playground routines to riot-inducing levels of over-excitement.
